ROXAS City – Three malls in the city are not complying with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) order that prohibits the wearing of high-heeled shoes, among others, in business establishments.
They are Robinsons Place, Gaisano City and Gaisano Market Place, according to Labor and Employment Offcicer III Jessel Valad-on.
The DOLE conducted an initial assessment on Sept. 24.
Valad-on said the mall’s personnel said they have yet to receive instructions from their top managers.
Department Order No. 178-2017, or the Safety and Health Measures for Workers Who By Nature of their Work Have to Stand at Work, wants to ensure occupational safety and health of salesladies, lady guards and school teachers.
The order limits the maximum allowable shoe heel height in workplaces to 1 inch.
Workers must also be given rest periods to cut the time spent standing or walking. They must be given accessible seats, to, the order said.
Estbalsihents must also set up appropriate flooring or mats to avoid adverse impact of frequent walking.
