BACOLOD City – Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles (Davao City, 1st District), chairman of the House appropriations committee, said he will check the availability of funds for the construction of the proposed Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge.
Nograles said a feasibility study for the project is being conducted.
“So hintayin natin ang NEDA (National Economic and Development Authority) para malaman natin kung ano ‘yung kinakailangan natin for this (bridge project),” Nograles said.
Nograles said he has yet to confirm with NEDA if the proposed project will be a “government-to-government” partnership.
“Kasi malaking project ‘yan. Malaking pondo ang kailangan,” Nograles added.
In case, he said that they are eyeing to make the Chinese government the partner in the proposed project.
Last month, members of the Chinese state-owned company – CCC Highways Consultants Co., Ltd. – went to Iloilo City for a pre-feasibility study for the proposed bridge construction.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways accompanied the group.
“They were authorized by their Ministry of Commerce to conduct a pre-feasibility study of the Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge,” Banias said.
According to Banias, the Beijing-based company built the longest bridge linking Macau and mainland China, which is about 60 kilometers.
“The pre-feasibility study will take a little while. They are getting information from government agencies,” Banias said.
He added that the company shouldered the expenses for the conduct of the pre-feasibility study./PN
