FORMER University of the Philippines Lady Maroons and now Perlas-BanKo Lady Spikers star Nicole Tiamzon was scheduled to hold her Spike and Serve volleyball camp on Dec. 16 in Iloilo City.
The volleyball camp will cater to less fortunate Ilonggo children who want to learn the basics of the sport, Ruding Villaruz told Panay News.
“This is our Christmas gift to the less fortunate kids of Iloilo,” Villaruz said of the camp, a joint project with Mayor Jose Espinosa III. “This is our own little way of inspiring others through sports and giving back to the community.”
Those who wish to participate may send Villaruz a private message via the TeamLegends Legends Facebook page. There will be no entrance fee and the participants will be given a free meal and a free camp shirt.
“Marami akong nakikitang may potential na mga volleyball players from the less fortunate in Iloilo. This motivates me to bring Spike and Serve here,” he said. “I am glad Nicole (Tiamzon) agreed to include Iloilo City in their schedule.”
Spike and Serve, a community service project of Tiamzon, aimed to create avenues for sports development, promote healthy competition and enhance community building in the grassroots level.
“Our mission with this one-day event is to promote fun, healthy competition and raise interest in the sport of volleyball while, at the same time, fostering a sense of community service,” Tiamzon said./PN
