FOOTBALL squads from the local government of Barotac Nuevo dominated the Iloilo leg of the 2017 Puma Sevens Football Cup, which was held recently at the football field in the municipality.
Barotac Nuevo ruled the U-19 event by beating Western Institute of Technology. It also claimed the crown in the women’s open category against Jaro Football Club and the U-11 category over So-ol FC.
Meanwhile, Central Philippine University bagged the U-15 championship at the expense of Tata FC from Capiz while Tamasal FC defeated CPU for the U-11 title.
Joemar Moscaya of Puma Philippines said they brought the two-day event to Barotac Nuevo to give province-based booters to experience competitive football.
“Playing competitive football is a rare experience for them,” Moscaya said. “We also chose to hold the Iloilo leg in Barotac Nuevo for being the ‘Football Capital of the Philippines.’”
“While many requested for an 11-a-side standard tournament, we pushed for 7-a-side to have more teams playing, aside from having fast-pace matches,” Moscaya added./PN
