BACOLOD City – There is a need for “total political transformation,” according to Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.
Marañon stressed this as he expressed his support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s “revolutionary government.”
Duterte on Oct. 13 said on state television that he is prepared to establish a revolutionary government to fend off critics that wanted to oust him.
Duterte was referring to European lawmakers and other groups and individuals who has been criticizing his war on drugs that has led to thousand deaths.
Marañon said he supports such kind of government as long as there are “enough guarantees that it will not be abused.”
The governor said if Duterte was “dead serious” to create a revolutionary government, he can do it, but it must be for “real change.”
“He can appoint interim government officials. Cory Aquino had done it before. (Ferdinand) Marcos had also done it,” said Marañon.
Marañon believes that the current system must be changed, including some individuals holding government positions.
He said that the shift to a revolutionary government can be done within a year./PN
