ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) reported a drop in Western Visayas’ crime volume these past nine months.

From January to September, the total crime volume (TCV) was 35,732 incidents – these were 5,666 less or 13.69 percent lower than the crimes recorded in the same period last year (41,398).

The Negros Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) recorded the most number of crimes at 8,027. It was followed by:

* Iloilo City Police Office – 7,855

* Iloilo Police Provincial Office – 6,925

* Aklan Police Provincial Office – 4,828

* Capiz Police Provincial Office – 3,191

* Bacolod City Police Office – 2,647

* Antique Police Provincial Office – 1,480

* Guimaras Police Provincial Office – 779

PRO-6 data also showed a drop in eight crimes – 9,388 or 1,386 less (12.85 percent drop) from 2016’s 10,772 crimes from January to September.

These crimes were the following:

* physical injuries – 3,913

* theft – 3,121

* murder – 366

* homicide – 188

* rape – 580

* robbery – 971

* “carnapping” – 13

* “motornapping” – 236

Western Visayas’ non-index crimes dropped, too – from 30,588 last year to 26,328 this year.

The police’s Crime Solution Efficiency, on the other hand, increased to 68.41 percent; last year it was 66.73 percent.

According to PRO-6 spokesperson Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, the drop in crimes was due to the police’s massive campaign against drug trafficking and loose firearms, among others./PN
