ILOILO City – Schools in Dumangas, Iloilo suspended classes yesterday due to torrential rains.
The heavy rainfall started on Tuesday night and continued yesterday morning, said Mayor Ronaldo Golez.
He announced the suspension of classes in 27 elementary schools and four high schools.
The Dumangas Central School was in fact flooded, said Golez.
“We are after our students’ safety. We don’t want them to get sick,” stressed the mayor.
Golez wondered why it rained hard in Dumangas.
“Wala man sang bagyo. Ang iban nga kabanwahanan kag Iloilo City grabe ang init while diri sa amon mabaskog ang ulan,” he added.
According to the state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geographical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), most parts of the country experienced scattered rains and thunderstorms on Tuesday due to weather systems affecting the country.
The tail-end of the coldfront affecting the eastern section of northern and central Luzon and the Intertropical Convergence Zone brought rainshowers and thunderstorms in Visayas and Mindanao and the regions of Cagayan Valley and Bicol, the provinces of Aurora, Quezon, and Palawan, said Pagasa./PN
