ROXAS City – An encounter between government troops and suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels lasted for an hour in Cuartero, Capiz, killing three persons.
Members of the 61st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army had a firefight with around 15 to 20 suspected NPA rebels at around 4 p.m. on Nov. 7.
The casualties were suspected NPA rebels, according to the Army.
Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Sisenando Magbalot Jr. said they received an intelligence report that armed men were present in the area soliciting palay from community members.
The suspected rebels retreated and fled to the mountainous portion of Dumarao town, leaving the three dead bodies and an AK17 rifle, said Magbalot.
The Army have yet to identify the three dead persons as of this writing./PN
