MANILA – Antonio Trillanes IV’s remark encouraging the military to shoot President Rodrigo Duterte in a privilege speech in the Senate was seditious, according to a group of lawyers.

The group led by former Negros Oriental representative Jacinto Paras, Manuel Luna, Eligio Mallari, and Nasser Marohomsalic will file against the senator charges for inciting sedition and rebellion.

Trillanes committed a “criminal act” for inciting the military and people to sedition, inciting to rebellion or creating a scenario for coup d’état, Paras claimed.

“By concocting lies and spurious documents, he (Trillanes) has encouraged, he has called on the military to kill the President,” said Paras.

Sabi niya, ‘Naku kung makikita ito ng mga sundalo, M60 machine guns ang gagamitin sa ’yo. Mauubos bala nito,’” the former congressman quoted Trillanes as saying.

Meanwhile Mallari said, “Trillanes’ statement cannot be said as a mere symbolism. When you do such thing, that’s inciting to sedition and you’re calling on all the people to act against the President.”

Paras added that they were looking for antecedent facts to form a case against Trillanes to be filed at either the Office of the Ombudsman or the Department of Justice.

In a speech on Oct. 3, Trillanes said soldiers might use up all the bullets of an M60 machine gun if they would find out that Duterte amassed P2 billion in ill-gotten wealth.

Kung makikita ito ng mga sundalo, M60 ang gagamitin sayo kasi marami-rami ito. Mauubos iyong magasin kung P40 million iyong hinahanap mo,” Trillanes had said.

Trillanes’ speech came after Duterte said in one of his speaking engagements that anybody can shoot him if it could be proven that his lifetime savings have exceeded P40 million./PN
