MANILA – Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque dismissed claims he was using his Malacañang position as a stepping stone to a higher political office.
“I don’t think so. There is no election period yet,” Roque recently told reporters.
Roque went to Cebu City on Sunday as he instructed Radio-Television Malacañang and the Presidential Communications Operations Office to open a satellite office there.
The spokesman has also expressed plans to head to the provinces to meet the press.
“But if the people really don’t want me to go the provinces, I will heed that, but let us see first how the public will respond to it,” said Roque.
“Certainly on the basis of my first trip to Cebu, the local media seemed to be very appreciative of the initiative,” he added.
Earlier Roque admitted he was open to running for senator in 2019.
“Ang aking motto po ay ‘Thy will be done,’” he had said. “Pati naman po doon sa Kongreso, iyong mga panahon na ako’y aktibista na nasa kalye, hindi ko naman akalain na ako’y maluluklok doon sa Kongreso.”/PN
