ILOILO City – Some 300 children-at-risk in the city will receive whistles under the “Pito Para sa Bata” program of the Iloilo City Council for the Protection of Children.
This was part of the campaign to ensure children’s safety against illegal drugs, abuse, exploitation, and disasters under the Comprehensive Program for Children At-Risk in the Street.
Social Welfare Officer Merlyn Gizon, focal person on child and youth welfare program, said on Thursday they decided to “mainstream” their advocacy program on the provision of protection whistles.
Aside from the free whistle, the children will also be provided with PVC bag tags with emergency hotline numbers they can call, Gizon said.
The initial recipients were beneficiaries of the Task Force on Street Children because they were “more vulnerable.”
The whistles will be released on Dec. 11 to mark the end of the National Children’s Month.
It will be held simultaneous with the awarding of the 2017 Most Child-Friendly Barangay.
Gizon said they hope to expand the project next year to include children in day care centers and elementary and high schools. (PNA)
