BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) urged the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to require stores and other business establishments in the city to put up consumer welfare desks.
Last week, the SP approved a resolution requesting the DTI to do such so that consumer complaints can be immediately responded to, effecting better service.
Councilor Sonya Verdeflor – chairwoman of the SP committee on trade, commerce and industry – authored the resolution, which also cited that the DTI must order all business establishments to provide information on consumers’ other concerns.
The resolution added that the setting up of consumer welfare desks is aimed at “fortifying efforts between the government and the private sector in the promotion of consumer welfare by establishing procedures to systematically and appropriately address complaints.”
Verdeflor said the presence consumer welfare desks at stores will earn them “good public image.”/PN
