BACOLOD City – A total of 295 inmates of the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ)-Male Dormitory Annex in Barangay Handumanan tested negative for illegal drug use.
Senior Inspector Norberto Miciano, warden of the MBDJ-Male Dormitory Annex, said the inmates who underwent the drug test were all facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Miciano added that most of the inmates were detained at the jail facility for more than six months already.
The inmates were made to submit their urine samples for the Nov. 23 drug test.
A representative from the Provincial Administrator’s Office of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was present during the passing of urine samples.
Those tested were among the about 800 inmates of the MBDJ-Male Dormitory Annex.
The test was conducted to make sure that there are no contraband, particularly prohibited drugs, present inside the jail facility, Miciano said.
Earlier, 25 inmates of the MBDJ-Female Dormitory were also found negative for illegal drug use, results of a random drug test showed.
The drug test was facilitated by Jail Officer 1 Carmena Ingente, also a jail nurse.
“MBDJ-Female Dormitory is one with acting BJMP chief Deogracias Tapayan in his campaign against illegal drugs inside all jail facilities,” the jail management said.
The female jail facility located in Barangay Handumanan houses more than 150 inmates. (PNA/PN)
