BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) impounded 40 unregistered e-trikes from Oct. 1 to 31.
Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, BTAO head, said the drivers of the unregistered e-trikes were fined P100 each.
Acebuche said they apprehended the drivers on major streets in the city and in the downtown area.
Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, classifies e-trikes as motor vehicles and thus their owners must register them to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) if used for public transport, said Acebuche.
He added that owners must also secure business permits from the city government if they intend to make their e-trikes as vehicles for hire.
E-trikes, however, are only allowed to navigate barangay roads and interior areas and not on national highways, Acebuche stressed.
Earlier, the LTO has reminded the drivers that e-trikes are not exempted from registration if they are intended to be used for public transport.
The LTO also reminded drivers to secure professional licenses with Restriction Code 1.
LTO-Bacolod chief Renato Novero said they have been coordinating with the local government units in deputizing their respective enforcers to carry out traffic regulations. (PNA/PN)
