KALIBO, Aklan – To mark the start of the holiday season, a 60-foot tall Christmas tree will be lit up on Dec. 1 in this capital town.
“Iwag it Kalibonhon para sa Mahayag nga Paeabuton,” or the lighting of a giant Christmas tree at Pastrana Park, has become a tradition of locals every December.
“The Pastrana Park will transform into a wonderland with sing-along carols and hundreds of holiday-inspired street lights,” said Mayor William Lachica.
Lachica added that Department of Environment and Natural Resources secretary Roy Cimatu and Rep. Carlito Marquez (Aklan) will lead the ceremonial switching on of the giant Christmas tree.
It will be followed by a fireworks display.
The switching on will also mark the start of gift-giving activities of nongovernmental and socio-civic organizations at Pastrana Park.
On the same day, the municipal government will conduct the blessing of the newly constructed covered basketball court at Pastrana Park.
