KALIBO, Aklan – More than 3,000 victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” are optimistic that they will receive their presidential financial assistance before the year ends.
This was according to Kim-Sin Feliciano Tugna of Rise Up Aklan, a coalition of several people’s organizations in the province.
Rise Up Aklan is a member organization of Kusog Sang Pamuluyo, which lobbies for immediate relief and rehabilitation and release of shelter assistance among victims after the 2013 super typhoon.
Tugna said some 3,847 households are being targeted to receive the P5,000 financial assistance from the national government.
“Yet there are no definite dates for the distribution of the P5,000 financial assistance in November or December. It is also not definite if what towns will receive the fund first,” said Tugna.
Tugna added that around 19,000 individuals in the province have already availed themselves of the financial assistance through a cash card in September.
The financial aid is from the socio-civic fund of President Rodrigo Duterte. It is intended for “Yolanda” survivors who have not received the emergency shelter assistance in 2013.
Thousands of victims decried the poor implementation of the emergency shelter assistance.
In the province, more than 85,000 partially and totally damaged houses in 17 towns were validated by national agencies as recipients of the emergency shelter assistance. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
