BACOLOD City – Elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detention Group, Mabinay police station, Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, and Regional Public Safety Battalion 7 raided a house in Sitio Tubod, Barangay Paniabonan, Mabinay, Negros Oriental.
They seized unlicensed firearms and ammunition, a police report showed.
However, they failed to arrest the owner of the loose guns – resident Rolando Bacurnay.
Police said Bacurnay fled before they could serve the search warrant at around 8 p.m. on Saturday.
The search warrant was issued by Judge Candelario Gonzales of the Regional Trial Court Branch 45 in Bais City, Negros Oriental.
The police served the warrant to Bacurnay’s live-in partner – whose name was not shown in the police report – instead.
Village chief Jerry Ducoy and village councilman Joseph Jainar were present when the warrant was served.
Recovered from the house were a .45-caliber pistol, three magazines, 12 bullets of a .45-caliber gun, 14 bullets of a 5.56mm gun, a .38-caliber revolver, and 15 bullets of a .40-caliber gun.
Police were still locating Bacurnay, who is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
