ILOILO City – A houseboy from Oton, Iloilo committed suicide by hanging yesterday in the house of his employer in Barangay North San Jose, Molo district.
Elbert Ronquillo was found hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom with a blanket tied around his neck, a police report showed.
It was not immediately clear what prompted Ronquillo to hang himself but the police were considering the possibility that an apparent misunderstanding with his girlfriend had something to do with it.
Fashion designer Jet Salcedo called the Molo police station at around 4:40 a.m. to report that his houseboy Ronquillo, a resident of Barangay Poblacion North, Oton, was found lifeless.
Responding officers brought Ronquillo to The Medical City hospital. Dr. Rey Gange pronounced him dead at around 5:07 a.m., the police report stated.
Investigators found no sign of struggle in the bedroom. They also recovered Ronquillo’s phone where they found text messages indicating a misunderstanding between him and his girlfriend, police said.
Salcedo also told the police that Ronquillo and his girlfriend, an overseas Filipino worker, were always fighting over the phone.
Ronquillo’s remains were at The Medical City hospital morgue pending autopsy by the police’s medicolegal officer./PN
