MANILA – The National University Pep Squad will be aiming for its fifth consecutive championship in the UAAP Season 80 Cheerdance Competition this afternoon at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
NU Pep Squad head coach Ghicka Bernabe said that just like in the previous editions, they would have another innovative performance with never-before seen stuns in their six-minute long stint.
“Mas mag-e-enjoy ang mga manonood this year,” said Bernabe. “Our stunts may seem to be easy but mahirap talaga silang gawin. Also this year medyo pa-sweet ‘yung performance pero may wow factor.”
“Kailangan talaga mag-champion kami. It’s a must,” added Bernabe. “Pero whatever happens, basta perfect performance, champions sila para sa akin at sa community.”
Meanwhile, after skipping last year’s competition due to an international stint, the University of the Philippines Pep Squad hopes to have a triumphant return this year to reclaim the championship.
“We won’t do anything less than what they’re expecting from the UP Pep Squad,” said UP Pep Squad’s Thea Obanil. “We’ll be showing what UP Pep Squad is all about, what UP Pep Squad has always been showing and that is the best.”
She added: “We just want to show our best, for the UP community, for everyone who supported us, everyone na nandyan lagi na hindi bumitaw sa amin na naniniwala pa rin.”
Also tipped to snatch a scene are De La Salle University Animo squad, Adamson Pep Squad, Far Eastern University Cheering Squad, University of the East Pep Squad, University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troup and Ateneo’s Blue Babble Battalion./PN
