MANILA – Aiming to make a run for a four-peat in the 2017-2018 PBA Philippine Cup, San Miguel Beermen bolstered its lineup by re-signing five of its veterans, led by Marcio Lassiter.
Beermen head coach Leovino Austria said they did not have a hard time convincing Lassiter to return to the squad where he played a vital role in their two championships last season.
Aside from the former Gilas Pilipinas gunner, the Beermen also renewed the contracts of veterans Matthew Ganuelas Rosser, Yancy de Ocampo, Brian Heruela, and Keith Agovida.
Still with live contracts with the Beermen are four-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo, Alex Cabagnot, Arwind Santos, Chris Ross, Gabriel Espinas, David Semerad, and Von Pessumal.
The Beermen have also added new players in John Billy Mamaril and rookie Louie Vigil to compensate for the loss of Ilonggo Ronald Tubid, Rashawn McCarthy and Jay-R Reyes who were traded to Kia Picanto for Christian Standhardinger.
“Definitely kailangan namin ng isa pang big man na pang-backup kina June Mar o kay Yancy at si Billy ang tingin namin ay fit para sa role na ‘yun,” said the five-time PBA champion coach.
The Beermen are also looking on veterans Chico Lanete, Dennis Miranda and Mark isip and practice players Raymond Austria, Michael Mabulac and Axel Doruelo to complete its 15-man lineup./PN
