MANILA – Filipino mixed martial arts fighter Robin Catalan of Iloilo City hopes to snap his two-game slide when he faces Kritsada Kongsrichai in the ONE FC: Warriors of the World card on Dec. at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Ilonggo has not tasted victory yet after losing to fellow Filipino Joshua Pacio in his debut in 2016 and getting knockout by Sor Amnuaysirichoke in March this year.
“I really wanted this win badly because I lost my debut in the ONE Championship, and then I also lost my second fight. This is a chance to redeem myself,” said the 31-year-old Catalan.
He has his hands full once again as he squares off with Kongsrichai, touted as one of the most promising young athletes in ONE FC today, in a three-round strawweight clash.
“I don’t see it as a problem. To me, this is a challenge that can bring out the best in me,” Catalan said. “The core of martial arts is to unleash a human’s true potential. I want to know my potential in this sport.”
He added: “My preparation for this fight has been absolutely awesome. I did extra work on my grappling. This will probably be the best camp I’ve ever had in my career.”
Catalan will be parading a 4-3 win-loss ring record with two victories coming by way of submissions, while Kongsrichai has a 5-3 win-loss card, including three stoppages and two submission wins.
Aside from Catalan, three other Filipino MMA fighters are slugging it out in the undercard with Rome Trinidad facing Rika Ishige, April Osenio battling Jingnan Xiong and Jimmy Yabo tangling with Sagetdao Petpayathai./PN
