ILOILO City – Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks of Iloilo National High School (INHS) broke her personal record after topping the secondary girls high jump event of the 2017 Iloilo Schools Sports Council (ISSC) Meet on Wednesday at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Brooks, a native of Leon, Iloilo, ruled the event after tallying 1.72 meters, shattering her previous personal best of 1.63 meters tallied during the Palarong Pambansa in San Jose, Antique in April this year.
“I am glad that my hard work for this event paid off,” Brooks told Panay News. “But of course, it won’t stop here. I will try to improve more in future competitions.”
Aside from high jump, the 16-year-old Brooks will also be competing in the relay event and hurdles event where she qualified to the finals after finishing on top of her heat.
Gim Pel Ablona later handed INHS its second gold in the competition after topping the secondary girls shot put with her 9.58 meters. Finishing behind her were Andrea Marie Baylon of ILOPRISSA (9.14) and Aira Mae Dapitan of CDSA 5 (8.77).
Rhealyn De Costa of CDSA 5, meanwhile, claimed the gold medal in the elementary girls shot put with her 9.88 meters. Ira Castor of CDSA 1 (8.86) and Hanna Athea Apdo of CDSA 5 (8.79) took the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
CDSA 2 and ICSSC, on the other hand, took home three gold medals each in the dancesport competition on Wednesday evening at the Iloilo National High School Multi-purpose Hall.
CDSA 2 ruled the Latin America Junior Category C, Latin America Juvenile C and Latin America Juvenile D, while ICSSC topped the Modern Standard Junior Category C, Latin America Junior Category D and Modern Standard Junior Category D.
CDSA 1, meanwhile, captured two gold medal finishes in Modern Standard Juvenile Category D and Modern Standard Juvenile Category C./PN
