CERES Negros is aiming for a championship slot in the Philippines Football League when it tangles with Kaya Makati in the second leg of the semifinals tonight at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Stephan Schrock, who scored the lone goal for Ceres in the first leg last Sunday, fully knows their 1-0 aggregate lead over Kaya is not safe from the latter’s firepower.
“We know Kaya will do everything to win it,” said the former Philippine Azkals mainstay. “You can be sure that we will be ready to do everything to keep our lead and go to the finals.”
Aside from a finals seat, a resounding win by Ceres over Kaya in their 7 p.m. encounter could be a huge boost to its AFC Club ranking. The Negros Occidental-based team is currently No. 79.
“We encourage Bacolodnons to come out and support us in possibly our final home game of the season,” said Ceres team manager Dennis Dinsay. “The support of our Bacolodnon fans will help inspire our players.”
“Also an impressive win by our players on Saturday will be helpful in boosting our rankings in the AFC Club,” Dinsay added. “It will qualify us to the AFC Cup or even to AFC Champions League.”
If Ceres charges to the finals, it will face the winner between Meralco Manila and Global Cebu in a one-game championship match on Dec. 16.
Aside from Schrock, also in the Ceres lineup are Bienvenido Marañon, Manuel Herrera, Kevin Ingreso, Manuel Ott, Fernando Rodriguez, Omid Nazari, Martin Steuble, Jeffrey Christiaens, Ronald Muller, and Iain Ramsay.
Kaya, meanwhile, has in its loaded roster Jordan Mintah, Ref Cuaresma, Adam Reed, Jovin Bedic, Kenshiro Daniels, Robert Lopez Mendy, Eric Giganto, and Janrick Soriano./PN
