CENTERPHIL Montessori Silver Knights, representing the 3rd Congressional District Sports Association (CDSA), advanced to the finals of the Iloilo Schools Sports Council (ISSC) Meet basketball after defeating Passi Montessori (4th CDSA) 70-55 yesterday at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Ronald Silorio led the way with 13 points, Ian Carl Gasacao added 12 markers, while Charles Sindol, Wilmar Silverio and Patrick John Gain combined for 25 points for Silver Knights.
In its fourth straight year in the ISSC basketball finals, Silver Knights will battle Hua Siong College of Iloilo (ILOPRISAA), which eliminated Sara Warriors (5th CDSA), in the knockout gold medal game at 7:30 a.m. today.
“So far, so good for our players, but we have yet to reach our ultimate goal,” said CenterPhil owner Mark Plagata Palabrica. “Our focus now is on Hua Siong. We know they are a tough team so we have to prepare well.”
Before beating Passi, the Andee Ticson-mentored CenterPhil scored lopsided victories in its Bracket B matches against Sara Warriors (66-45), New Lucena (78-49) and the Municipality of Oton (67-41).
Meanwhile, Yna Patrecia Teruel (1st CDSA) clinched two gold medals in secondary girls’ archery. Teammate Immanuel Tangliben likewise captured gold in the boys’ event.
Teruel first dominated the 30m event where she defeated her fellow 1st CDSA players Mary Rose Tatud and Jaenes Rose Sealsa. Teruel also bagged the 40m gold against Tatud and Ron Athena Lavina (2nd CDSA).
Tangliben stamped class in secondary boys’ 30m where he defeated teammate Reuben David Supena and 5th CDSA’s Syrhel Abian.
Moreover, Iloilo City School Sports Council raised its gold medal haul in wushu with five courtesy of Zhian Jonas Ziosan (male 42kg Group B), Jerrylou Capillo (male 48kg Group B), Jerson Parreno (male 48kg Group A), Shun Barreta (male 56kg), and Jaymar Biclar (male 52kg).
The 2nd CDSA captured four gold medals in wushu from Angelica Saludares (female 52kg), Ghemlie Luna (female 48kg), Maria Angelica Taliga (female 45kg), and Ghea Mae Gregorios (female 42kg)./PN
