MANILA – The losing skid continues for Rabin Catalan as he suffered a first-round technical knockout loss to Thai Kritsada Kongsrichai in ONE: Warriors of the World on Saturday night at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
It was the third consecutive defeat for the Iloilo City native mixed martial arts fighter since ONE Championship signed him last year. He previously lost to Filipino Joshua Pacio and Thai Sor Amnuaysirichoke.
Catalan failed to keep in step with Kongsrichai since the onset of the match. The latter pummeled the Ilonggo fighter with multiple knees and kicks. Catalan tried to take Kongsrichai to the ground but was unsuccessful.
The failed try by Catalan led to Kongsrichai unleashing his own version of takedown and landed consecutive elbows on the Filipino before the referee decided to end the match.
With the defeat, the 31-year-old Catalan dropped to a 4-4 win-loss record, including two submission victories, while Kongsrichai improved to 6-3, including four stoppages and two submission wins.
Just like Catalan, Filipino Jimmy Yabo also suffered a brutal first-round stoppage loss at the hands of muay thai specialist Sagetdao Petpayathai of Thailand in the supporting bout.
Yabo was able to slug it out with Petpayathai early in the match with kicks and knee attacks but the Filipino fighter crumbled midway in the opening round on a devastating knee of the Thai.
Filipina MMA fighters Rome Trinidad and April Osenio also failed in their debut matches. They were defeated by Rika Ishige of Thailand and Xiong Jing Nam of Vietnam, respectively./PN
