MANILA – When he retires on Jan. 31 next year, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa will move to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
President Rodrigo Duterte first confirmed Dela Rosa’s appointment to BuCor on Tuesday night.
Dela Rosa welcomed his appointment even though he said solving problems in the BuCor is a tough job.
“Who am I to refuse the President?” the PNP chief said during Congress’ special session on Wednesday on the proposed extension of martial law in Mindanao. “He (Duterte) is my boss ever since, he will be my boss forever.”
“Sana lang masolusyonan natin ang problema na matigil ang drugs sa loob ng kulungan,” the police official said.
Dela Rosa is set to reach the mandatory age of retirement for uniformed personnel on Jan. 21 next year.
“Hirap na hirap na ako isipin iyan,” he said of the supposed proliferation of drugs in detention facilities.
“How can you arrest someone who is already arrested? Paano mo ikulong ang taong nakakulong na, paano mo i-convict (ang) taong na-convict na, so what’s next?” Dela Rosa said.
According to Dela Rosa, he would hold to account all drug lords doing business inside jails across the country./PN
