FOUR high school basketball teams will play in a tournament that is part of the Dinagyang Festival celebration next month in Iloilo City.
Seeing action from Jan. 12 to 14 are Santa Clarita International High School Primes, ILOPRISAA champion Hua Siong College of Iloilo, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, and Ateneo de Cebu-Sacred Heart.
Primes head coach Rodel Camacho said they will use the three-day games to prepare for future tournaments.
“We are thankful to Ka Ruding for inviting our school to this pocket tournament,” Camacho said. “We will be using this to prepare since we have a lot of tournaments to join next year.”
Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung vice president for sports, said the Dinagyang tournament will be a great avenue for them to be tested by tougher teams.
“We know Santa Clarita, Hua Siong and Ateneo de Cebu are no pushovers so we accepted the invite,” said Montalbo.
Tournament organizer Ruding Villaruz said the sporting event will showcase the talents of Ilonggo basketball players.
“The time is now for us to host this type of league. We all know Iloilo schools have lot of talent when it comes to this division,” he said.
Admission to the tournament venue will be free, Villaruz said. He also thanked the Iloilo City government under Mayor Jose Espinosa III for supporting the event./PN
