ILOILO – To boost the capacity of district hospitals in providing adequate, quality and timely emergency transport services in disadvantaged areas, a global healthcare nongovernment organization in South Korea completed its donation of ambulances for 12 district hospitals.
Medipeace president Dong Youb Suh and Representative Hyemi Kim recently turned over the keys of the last three ambulances at the provincial capitol.
The three ambulances were for Dr. Ricardo S. Provido Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Calinog, Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in Lambunao and Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Janiuay.
The donations were part of Medipeace’s project to strengthen public health system based on maternal and child health in Iloilo.
“Before our project, Iloilo district hospitals had only 10 ambulances but we doubled it to 20 ambulances. It is a meaningful achievement that Iloilo has at least one emergency transport vehicle per 100,000 population on average,” said Suh.
Suh added that they could not do all the work without the active participation of the provincial government, hospital personnel and the community in achieving the goal of improved emergency system and reduced maternal and neonatal mortality.
“We are happy to hand over three ambulances to Iloilo and I wish it can help develop healthy communities and a strong health system,” Suh said.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias thanked Medipeace for giving Iloilo 12 ambulances since 2015.
As a global healthcare NGO, Medipeace aims to join aid efforts and help establish primary health care in disaster zones.
In 2015, it provided ambulances to the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan, Jesus M. Colmenares Memorial District Hospital in Balasan and Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Passi City, and essential medical kits for barangay health stations.
In 2016, it donated ambulances to the Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Dumangas, Sara District Hospital in Sara, Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital in Guimbal, Rep. Pedro G. Trono Memorial District Hospital, and rural health units of Miagao and Concepcion.
It also provided training on basic life support and advance cardiovascular life support to 48 medical staff in select district hospitals. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno, Iloilo Capitol)/PN
