MANILA – Another body was pulled from the shopping mall in Davao City that was hit by fire last Saturday, raising the fatality count to 38.
Authorities found the body of NCCC mall employee Melvin Ga-a on Tuesday night, Jeff Tupas of the Davao City Public Information Office said in a text message on Wednesday.
The rest of the casualties were all workers of the United States-based call center Survey Systems International, whose office was at the topmost floor of the four-story mall.
Only two bodies have not been properly identified. Forensic experts were still checking which remains belonged to Mikko Demafeliz or Alexandra Moreno.
The Davao City Public Information Office, in a Facebook post, listed the 36 identified fatalities: Jeffrey Sismar, Mary Louielyn Bongcayao, Kurtchin Angela Bangoy, Joy Pabelonia, Christen Garzon, Jim Benedict Quimsing, Jonas Basalan, Jessica Samontina, Venus Joy Quimpo, Jimboy Limosnero, Christine Joy Ferraren, Rosyl Montanez;
Missy Rose Artiaga, Rhenzi Nova Muyco, Ivan Nebelle Roble, Elyn Joy Yorsua, Shiela Mae Bacaling, Roderick Antipuesto, Nancy Loyd Abad, Jessica Solis, Charlyn Liwaya, Melvin Ga-a, Regine Generales, Gantioco Celestial;
Apple Jane Celades, Ian Kiem Adlawan, Lister Jade Entera, Analiza Piñajiro, Christine Alviola, Roderick Constantinopla, Dresiree Gayle Zacarias, Johani Matundo, Iana Apalacio, Maryjoy Daloro, Randy Balcao, and Janine Joy Obo.
Saturday’s fire broke out at a furniture store on the third level of the 14-year-old NCCC mall and quickly engulfed the call center on the upper floor, based on an initial report from the city government.
President Rodrigo Duterte had told relatives of victims that the Bureau of Fire Protection, the National Bureau of Investigation and the police would get to the bottom of the disaster.
“The truth will come out,” the President said as he comforted the victims’ families earlier this week.
The call center company said it was helping with funeral arrangements and would set up a fund for contributions to the victims’ families. (ABS-CBN News)
