MANILA – Sen. Grace Poe was pushing for the creation of a special body that will investigate vehicular crashes.
Poe’s proposal came in light of the collision between a jeepney and a bus in Agoo, La Union on Dec. 25 that killed 20 passengers and hurt 26 others.
The incident was “a reminder for everyone traveling during the holidays to exercise caution while driving,” said Poe.
Those on board the jeepney were from the same extended family trying to catch a mass in Manaoag, Pangasinan, police said.
The Partas bus, on the other hand, was bound for Laoag City, Ilocos Norte when the crash happened at around 3:30 a.m.
Poe, chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Public Services, said a National Transportation Safety Board may be formed to look into similar incidents and help prevent such from happening.
She also called on persons in authority to investigate the Christmas crash.
“While the investigation is ongoing, let us give the victims all the help they need,” said Poe./PN
