ILOILO City – Banned firecracker piccolo and illegal noisemaker boga caused injuries on two minors, police reports showed.
The 10-year-old John Mark Perez was trying to operate a boga, an improvised cannon, at around 6 a.m. on Wednesday in Barangay Gines, Lambunao, Iloilo when he accidentally sprayed its liquid fuel on his eyes, a police report showed.
This caused redness on Perez’s eyes. The child was taken to the Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in the town for treatment.
In Roxas City, a piccolo exploded on the right hand of 12-year-old Jhon Lorenzo, wounding his index finger and thumb.
The explosion happened at around 3:05 p.m. on Christmas Day in Sitio Mandulalaw, Barangay Barra.
It was the sole firecracker-related incident in Roxas City the Department of Health has recorded since it started monitoring such incidents on Dec. 21.
The child was taken to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital. He was discharged after getting treated./PN
