TABLE tennis players from Bacolod City dominated the 3rd Governor’s Cup tournament at the SM City Atrium in the city.
Roan Vasquez captured the 13 and Under boys title after defeating Dirk Nikhole Atilano in the finals. Matthew Metoda, meanwhile, salvaged a bronze medal.
Kylie Sophia Villanueva dominated the 13 and Under girls category in the Dec. 27 to 29, 2017 tournament after defeating Glieza Cordova of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. Bacolodnon Bliss Suarez finished third.
In the men’s Open event, John Paul Gubaton claimed the title after winning over Danilo Abonales. John Michael Castro settled for a second runner-up finish.
Over at the distaff side, Rose Jean Fadol dethroned erstwhile champion Micah Tanate as Ann Gella Borbon escaped with a win over Sheryl May Otanes to secure the third place trophy.
In men’s Executive, Peter Lim edged Richie Sausa in the finals as Robert Arteche finished third. Maricris Catalan, on the other hand, swept her way to the gold medal of the women’s Executive A.
Corazon Boyero claimed the tiara in the women’s Executive B after a come-from-behind victory over Marichu Claver. Maria Lee Trasporto settled for second runner-up.
The event gathered 198 players from Negros Occidental, Iloilo and Antique./PN
