SAN JOSE, Antique – Farmers in Antique may apply for production loans with three cooperatives that recently received funding from the Department of Agriculture.
About P30 million in initial funding was distributed to these cooperatives under the department’s Production Loan Easy Access Program:
* Pandan Multipurpose Cooperative – P15 million
* Antique Provincial Government Employees Multipurpose Cooperative – P10 million
* Egaña Parish Cooperative – P5 million
“Qualified farmers could avail themselves of loans from these cooperatives,” Provincial Agriculturist Nicolasito Calawag said in a radio interview.
Farmers who are unable to obtain loans from banks are qualified, said Calawag.
Under the program, farmers could borrow up to P50,000 with a 6 to 7 percent interest per annum.
Those interested may contact their municipal agriculturist, who will certify their loan application.
According to Calawag, the Office of Senator Loren Legarda allocated P300 million for the program.
The remaining P270 million will be given to various towns in Antique this year, he said. (PIA/PN)
