BACOLOD City – Councilor Caesar Distrito commended Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), for the intensified enforcement of the curfew for minors in the city.
“I am very satisfied with the efforts of our police force in implementing the curfew,” Distrito said.
City Ordinance 331 aims to provide special protection for children under 18 years old during night time.
It imposes the curfew for minors from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. It was approved in June 2003.
Distrito said the curfew is a preventive measure against criminality, especially for girls, who he said, are susceptible to fall as victims of crimes against persons and properties.
Police Officer 4 Arlene Torendon, officer-in-charge of the BCPO-Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), said they have been enforcing the ordinance since it was passed.
The BCPO-WCPD is rescuing children in conflict with the law and children at risk.
The implementation of the curfew is a joint effort of the BCPO, the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) and barangays in the city.
DSSD head Pacita Tero said the minors that the police rescued are turned over to the barangay council.
The barangay council will then meet with the parents of the rescued children to give them lectures on parenting./PN
