CEBU City – Senior Superintendent Julian Entoma, officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), ordered yesterday an investigation into reports that minors are being used as drug couriers in Barangay Basak-Pardo.
Entoma issued the order after receiving information from the city government that minors in the barangay were recruited as gang members and then used by drug pushers to deliver illegal drugs to buyers.
Cebu Office for Substance Abuse Prevention head Garry Lao said some parents and residents of the barangay were alarmed due to the report, prompting them to ask for assistance.
Some of the minors were believed to be using drugs as well, as they now had the guts to be drug couriers, said Lao.
“I was so concerned about this report, that’s why I brought this up to the attention of CCPO chief Entoma,” Lao said.
Some parents also suspect that the minors were made to believe that using drugs or delivering them to buyers was part of their initiation to become gang members. (PNA/PN)
