KALIBO, Aklan – The Philippine Statistics Authority is conducting a survey to determine the outlook of Aklanon consumers to the country’s economic condition, household finances and household income.
The survey is dubbed as “Consumer Expectation Survey (CES).”
According to Provincial Statistics Officer Antonet Catubuan, the data collected in the survey will help in forecasting the direction of our economy and determine the behavior of our inflation rate, interest rates and exchange rates.
“Consumer spending and saving decisions have important influence in determining the course of the national economy as proven in many countries conducting similar survey,” Catubuan said.
The survey will also provide quick assessment on consumers’ confidence about their income and expenditures, which will give a forecast on the country’s economic activity.
PSA-Aklan commissioned a professional statistical researcher to conduct the survey in 32 sample households in the province.
The respondents will be asked about family finances, buying conditions and economic condition in the country.
Based on the results of the October 2017 CES that the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas released, the overall confidence index of Filipinos slightly decreased to 9.5 percent from 10.2 percent in the third quarter last year.
This means that “optimists” continue to outnumber the “pessimists.”
The continued positive sentiment of respondents was attributed to additional family income and higher salary, and availability of more jobs leading to an increase in the number of employed family members.
On the other hand, the spending outlook index of Filipinos on basic goods and services increased to 34.9 percent for the first quarter of 2018 from 28.1 percent in the last quarter of 2017.
This means that respondents who expected to spend more on goods and services outnumbered those who said otherwise, and the number that said so increased compared to last quarter.
Catubuan urges respondents to give truthful and correct answers to the data collector.
She assured them that all information will be held strictly confidential as provided for by law. (With PSA Aklan/PN)
