BACOLOD City – A police trainee was killed in a road accident in Barangay La Granja, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
Superintendent Cresenciano Cordero, La Carlota City police chief, identified the police trainee as the 25-year-old resident Rowell Saladan.
Saladan was driving a motorcycle on his way home when he bumped into another motorcycle that the 27-year-old Edwin Galon of Barangay Haguimit, La Carlota City was driving, a police report showed.
Saladan fell on the road. That was when a cargo truck loaded with sugarcane ran over him, police said.
The 49-year-old Romulo Pedro of Barangay Masulog, La Castellana, Negros Occidental was the truck’s driver.
Pedro told the police that he tried to avoid running over Saladan but failed.
Saladan sustained head and body injuries and was rushed to the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City where the attending physician pronounced him “dead on arrival.”
The accident happened around 9:20 p.m. on Friday, according to the police.
Pedro surrendered and was detained at the La Carlota City police station lockup facility.(With Mae Singuay/PN)
