ILOILO City – To cushion the impact of the tax reform law, 315,681 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in Western Visayas were placed under the government’s Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) program.
A total of P757,634,400 has been allocated for these beneficiaries, who were set to receive P2,400 each, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 records showed.
Chandelyn Jesselle Rile, OIC regional program coordinator of 4Ps, said 87,265 beneficiaries were already given their share on March 6 via their Land Bank of the Philippines cash cards.
The beneficiaries were from the cities of Iloilo, Bacolod and Roxas.
Currently without cash cards but under the 4Ps payroll, the remaining 228,416 beneficiaries – from the provinces of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental – were set to get their share in April.
This, as the DSWD awaits guidelines and an agreement between the agency, Land Bank, and the Department of Budget and Management with regard to the disbursement of funds.
The Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion, or TRAIN, Law lowered income taxes but was expected to lead to the increase of the prices of various prime commodities.
Rile said the DSWD was already carrying out the UCT program even though the agency has not yet received from the beneficiaries any complaint specifically with regard to commodity prices.
The government only wanted the 4Ps recipients to be ready for inflation, she said./PN
