ILOILO City – Three men ganged up on a neophyte policeman in what investigators consider a case of drunken violence yesterday in a karaoke bar in Barangay Jalandoni, City Proper.
Police Officer 1 Paolo Moqueralio sustained wounds on the face and body. He was confined at the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro district.
Moqueralio identified his alleged attackers as Christian Cabunaga of Barangay Buga, Leon, Iloilo; Genie Sandoma of this city; and Juni Santilan, 25, of Barangay Poblacion, San Joaquin town.
Moqueralio was assigned at the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit of the Police Regional Office 6.
All three suspected attackers were arrested and detained at the Police Station 1 custodial facility.
Moqueralio said he intends to file charges for physical injuries and robbery with violence against the suspects.
From what the police investigators led by Superintendent Jonathan Pablito have so far gathered, the suspects attacked Moqueralio at around 2 a.m. at Rooftop KTV Bar.
Binge drinking with friends, Moqueralio stood up to get iced water but the suspects blocked his way. A heated argument then ensued, investigators said.
After mauling the policeman, the suspects grabbed his bag, which contained his .9mm service pistol, his wallet with cash, and his Philippine National Police identification card, they added.
But the suspects, in a radio interview, denied intending to hurt the policeman.
Sandoma claimed that they felt threatened and acted on instinct to protect themselves when they ganged up on Moqueralio, who pulled out his service firearm from his bag.
Pablito said the suspects have turned over the policeman’s belongings to Police Station 1./PN
