BACOLOD City – Methamphetamine, commonly known as shabu, worth some P195,000 was recovered in a series of drug buy-bust operations in this capital city last week.

The operations led to the arrest of nine drug suspects from late Thursday night to early Friday morning, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) said.

It was past 10 p.m. on Thursday when officers from the City Drug Enforcement Unit, led by Superintendent Nasruddin Tayuan, caught Jeszon Mariga in Purok Arao, Barangay Vista Alegre.

Mariga was arrested after selling shabu to a poseur-buyer for P1,000, police said.

Recovered from Mariga’s possession were two big sachets and one small sachet of shabu worth P150,000, added the police.

Mariga was detained at the Police Station 7 lockup facility.

In a separate operation that the Police Station 2 conducted simultaneously, shabu valued at P20,000 was confiscated from a house in Purok Narra, Barangay 8.

House owner Pablo Bautista, who was the target of the buy-bust operation, escaped but two suspects were arrested. They were the 44-year-old Ramil Demafelis of Barangay 12 and the 42-year-old Leonil Casiano of Barangay Banago.

Around 12:20 a.m. on Friday, Police Station 8 officers caught another suspect – a surrenderee – in Barangay Singcang-Airport.

He was Jethro Baldecasa, who yielded shabu with a market value of P18,000, the police said.

Details of the other drug operations were not immediately available but the BCPO said it overall recovered shabu weighing about 13 grams.

BCPO reported that the operations netted one high-value target, two street-level targets, and six newly identified suspects.

The series of antidrug operations in the city “conveys its seriousness” in its war on drugs, the BCPO added. (With a report from PNA/PN)
