BACOLOD City – Two policemen who were wounded after a firefight with a murder suspect who resisted arrest in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental received awards.
Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, director of Police Regional Office 6, gave the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting,” or the Philippine National Police Wounded in Action Medal, to Police Officer 3 Joy Pabera and Police Officer 2 Armando Louis Arsenal – both from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 – on Thursday night.
Pabera and Arsenal were about to serve the 35-year-old Emerson Antipaso Jr. an arrest warrant when the suspect fired at them using improvised 12-gauge shotgun in Barangay Manlucahoc, Sipalay City around 12:25 p.m. on Thursday.
Pabera, who was admitted at the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City, and Arsenal, who was not confined, fired back in defense, police said.
Antipaso, on the other hand, was killed due to gunshot wounds on the different parts of the body.
Binag lauded the two officers for their bravery and dedication to the service./PN
