IN PROVERBS 30:18-19, the bible relates: “There are three things that amaze me – no, four things that I don’t understand: how an eagle glides through the sky, how a snake slithers on a rock, how a ship navigates the ocean, how a man loves a woman.”
It was purely by chance that Carollyn Anne Sazon and Francisco Javier “Paco” Colomer Baldo met one fateful afternoon in 2015 at Singapore.
A full-time nurse, Carollyn crossed paths with a handsome Spanish gentleman at a restaurant in Singapore. Unbeknownst to Carollyn, the mysterious fella would change her life forever.
The mystery man was Paco Colomer, a Benidorm, Spain-born lawyer who was at that time based in Madrid. Carollyn and Paco got to talk, and so she found out he was there as a tourist. They exchanged contacts, and at that time, Carollyn thought very little of the meeting.
Little did she know, Paco would soon win her over with his sincersity and his thoughtful gestures. The two started exchanging texts and messages. One month and a half after he first met Carollyn, Paco came back to Singapore to find work.
“He was very persistent and caring, always getting in touch with me to meet, always asking how my day was,” relates Carollyn on Paco, admitting that at that point he was starting to wear her down and break past her walls.
“At first, I wasn’t sure if Paco was ‘the one’,” says Carollyn. “I liked Paco, but I was still a little hesitant. This is when I asked for a sign from God to help me make my decision.”
“I said ‘Lord, give me a sign. If Paco asks me to go to church to attend mass, only then will I truly know he’s the man you’ve chosen for me,'” narrated Carollyn.
Lo and behold, one fateful Sunday, Carollyn was asked nonchalantly by Paco, himself also a devout Catholic, to join him to attend mass. A week later on Jan. 12, they went on a trip to Bintan Island near Singapore. Paco asked Carollyn to be his girlfriend, she said “yes” without any hesitation.
With Carollyn’s sweet “yes,” Paco decided to uproot his life from Spain and transfer to Singapore to be with his girlfriend. The two proved to be a match made in heaven, travelling around the world and making a home for the two of them. After visiting each other’s hometowns and meeting each other’s parents, Paco decided it was time to surprise Carollyn and pop the question.
During a trip to idyllic Palawan in June last year, when Carollyn least expected it, Paco asked her to marry him under the stars.
“I was really caught off guard,” shared Carollyn. “I wasn’t expecting it. I so shocked that I slapped Paco and said ‘You’re crazy!’ But shedding happy tears, I said ‘yes’ and embraced him.”
Carollyn shares that Paco and her are practically polar opposites, so maybe that’s why they complement each other so perfectly.
“Paco is very detail-oriented and serious, meanwhile I’m easygoing and happy-go-lucky,” relates Carollyn. She shares that her wedding is not only a marriage of two people but also the union of two cultures: Spain and Iloilo.
Paco and Carollyn exchanged vows at the modern and understated Mere Monique Chapel in Ticud, La Paz Iloilo. Meanwhile their intimate reception was held at the Sheridan Boutique Resort in Oton, Iloilo.
