GENERIKA-Ayala Lifesavers made a short work of the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors with a 25-12, 25-23, 28-26 sweep in the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference last night at the Cadiz City Arena in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Ilongga Fiola Ceballos finished with 10 points while team captain Angeli Araneta and Bacolodnon Patty Jane Orendain chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, for the Lifesavers.
Libero Kath Arado was also instrumental with 18 excellent digs and five excellent receptions while Jamie Isabelle Lavitoria set the pace with 15 excellent sets as the Generika-Ayala jumped to second place with 3-1 card.
The Lifesavers were all business in the opening set as it quickly jumped to a 16-5 advantage. It continued from thereon as the Generika-Ayala easily closed the set at 25-12.
The second set, however, was a different story as the Lady Realtors surged to a 16-11 advantage but the Lifesavers leaned on Orendain and Marivic Meneses to tie the score at 23-all before Araneta completed the come-from-behind set win with back-to-back hits.
The third frame was a tight one for both teams before the Lady Realtors gained an 18-13 edge but the Lifesavers rallied behind Ceballos to tie the score at 26-all before a drop shot by Araneta sealed the win for the Generika-Ayala.
“We had a strong start but we struggled in the second and third sets. Good thing was, the girls hung tough and completed those comebacks,” said Lifesavers head coach Sherwin Meneses. “We’re already improving so we just hope we could sustain it.”
Marjana Phillips was the lone bright spot with 14 points for struggling Lady Realtors, which suffered its fourth straight loss in five matches./PN
