
MANILA – Bacolod Master Sardines failed to take advantage of Nico Paolo Javelona’s hot shooting. It suffered an 89-74 loss to Caloocan Supremos in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at Caloocan Sports Complex.
The Bacolod City native Javelona converted six three-point baskets on Thursday to finish with 30 points. But the Master Sardines still suffered another defeat to drop to 3-6 win-loss record.
The Supremos got its shots to fall early in the match. They built a 25-18 advantage.
The Bacolodnons managed to come to as close as 32-34 before the Caloocan pulled away anew for a 43-34 halftime edge.
Bacolod came to as close as six points in the third period but a huge rally by the Supremos allowed them to establish the largest lead of the match at 79-58 with over five minutes in the fourth quarter.
Bacolod relied on the three-point shooting of Javelona to cut the deficit to 70-83 late in the match but Caloocan responded with timely conversions to increase the lead back to 15 points.
Rene Pacquiao and Damian Lasco top-scored with 14 markers apiece, while John Carlos Escalambre and John Ambulodto added 13 and 10 markers, respectively, as the Supremos surged to its third straight win and improve to 4-5 mark.
Aside from Javelona, also delivering double-figures in scoring for the losing Bacolod team were John Paul Cauilan with 12 points, while Mark Tallo and Jopher Custodio had 10 each./PN
