MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC aims to tighten its hold on the 2019 Philippines Football League’s top spot when it faces Mendiola FC 1991 today at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa, Batangas.

The match is slated at 4 p.m. The Busmen hopes to improve its league-leading 25 points (eight wins and one draw), while Mendiola aims to continue its upset ax to increase its 10 points (three wins, six losses and one draw).
The Negros Occidental-based football team is on a roll. It won its last eight matches, including a 1-0 repeat over regional rival Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo behind the lone goal of Jose Elmer Porteria.

Ceres-Negros, however, will have to attain their goal minus defender Sean Kane and head coach Risto Vidakovic, who were both ejected against Kaya-Iloilo for continuous complaining to the referees.

Mendiola, on the other hand, hopes to pull off a massive upset after winning its last match against Global-Makati FC behind the goal hits by Hamed Hajimahdi and Alem Angeles.

During their first encounter this season, Ceres-Negros posted a 4-0 victory over Mendiola with two conversions from Bienvenido Maranon and another hit from former Busmen Curt Dizon./PN
