MANILA – The already strong is set to become even stronger. Veteran guard Kevin Alas will make his return to the NLEX Road Warriors tonight when they face NorthPort Batang Pier in the 2019 PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights guard had not been in action for the Road Warriors since early this year after sustaining his second anterior cruciate ligament injury.
“Maglalaro na siya just to get him going and let him feel how it is to be back in competition,” said Road Warriors head coach Joseller Guiao. “Pero siyempre sundut-sundot lang muna ‘yun, hindi pa muna namin bibiglain.”
Guiao added that the former Gilas Pilipinas guard could have returned to action as early as last Sunday against Magnolia Hotshots but postponed it since the game was held at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City, the venue where Alas sustained his two ACL tears.
“We postponed it kasi nasa Ynares ‘yung laban. So wala namang mawawala kung hindi kami magmamadali,” said Guiao.
Alas, for his part, said he is now ready to play again. He’s already been religiously practicing with the Road Warriors for more than a month now.
“Ready na ako maglaro uli, siguro more on sa utak na lang ‘yung kalaban ko ngayon,” said Alas.
The Road Warriors is already assured of a quarterfinals seat in the ongoing Governors’ Cup with its league-leading 8-1 win-loss record./PN
