Man placed under hospital arrest after ‘attacking’ cop

BACOLOD City – A 34-year-old man who got shot was placed under hospital arrest after allegedly attacking a member of the local law enforcement team and a police officer in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Resident Bernie Unlagada, who is believed to be mentally challenged, was taken to the San Carlos City Hospital. He sustained gunshot wounds on the legs, a police report showed.

Unlagada was accused of injuring 46-year-old resident Rolly Paalisbo on the head using a steel saw and later attacking 36-year-old Police Corporal Allyn Estrao, it added.

According to police investigators, Paalisbo was on duty when he responded to the call of a security guard in San Carlos Borromeo Cathedral asking for assistance.

Paalisbo and Unlagada had a confrontation, and this prompted the latter to hit the former.
After police officers arrived in the area, Estrao shot Unlagada when he was attacked by the former around 2 a.m. on May 12.
Charges will be filed against Unlagada./PN
