KALIBO, Aklan – The Sangunniang Bayan (SB) of Malay in this province passed an ordinance that would prohibit laundry hanging along all streets and highways in the municipality.
The measure was approved on third and final reading during SB’s regular session on Aug. 27.
Once signed by Mayor Frolibar Bautista, this new policy will be enforced immediately.
According to councilor Maylynn Graf, laundry hanging along streets and highways is a huge eyesore in this town, especially for tourists in the world-famous Boracay Island.
“The ordinance upholds cleanliness, orderliness and a dignified appearance,” she stressed.
The measure will also regulate the posting of promotional posters of liquor brands and other commercial products outside kiosks or sari-sari stores. The local government unit, Graf said, may put up separate boards in designated areas for promotional
posters of these products to prevent indiscriminate posting. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
