LEZO, Aklan – Two reformation facilities were opened for drug offenders in the province of Aklan.
The Balay Silangan centers in the towns of Lezo and Madalag will accommodate drug personalities who are not eligible to seek medical treatment and rehabilitation in facilities supervised by the Department of Health.
They will undergo interventions, counseling, values formation and livelihood to give them a second chance in life.
The facilities in Lezo and Madalag offer alternative programs centered on reformation of drug personalities based on the concept of “Balay Pagbabago”.
Balay Silangan was conceptualized as a family-based in-house reformation which operates on the spirit of volunteerism of corporate community, local government units and civic groups.
The two centers recently inaugurated by the Regional Oversight Committee are supported by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National Police, Department of Trade and Industry, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority./PN
