ILOILO – Help from this province is coming to families in Luzon devastated by typhoons “Rolly” and “Ulysses.”
The provincial government is donating financial assistance of P500,000 each to the local government units (LGUs) of Cagayan, Albay, Camarines Norte, Marinduque, and Catanduanes.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said in times of need, the province should be able to assist and support other LGUs.
“We are going to facilitate that fast para maka-release kita sa ila,” Defensor added.
Aside from the financial assistance, the provincial government is also planning to launch a donation drive to support the immediate needs of communities reeling from the impact of the recent typhoons.
Just days after super typhoon “Rolly” hammered the Bicol region on Nov. 1, Southern Luzon was again being battered by typhoon Ulysses.
At least 67 people died and thousands were affected by the storm that hit Luzon, leaving several areas flooded including Metro Manila, Cagayan and Isabela.
The typhoon destroyed infrastructure amounting to over P8 billion and left some P1 billion agricultural damage.
In November last year, the provincial government also extended cash assistance worth P3 million to victims of strong earthquakes in Mindanao./PN
